CLUB HAPPENINGS:

Meet our newest member

Congratulations to Tom Kenyon on becoming a member of our Lions Club. Most of our members know Tom for his many years as Scoutmaster of Scout Troop 66 in our community. We will get to know Tom better as we serve together on our current projects and we look forward to his leadership towards developing new ideas, projects and fundraisers to help those less fortunate through Lionism.

Everyone will want to update your club directory. Tom and his wife Anna Mae live at 2273 Lititz Pike, Lancaster PA 17601. Phone number is 569-3543, his email address is tsk21@paonline.com.

ADOPT A ROAD

Our spring cleanup is scheduled for Apr. 24th. We meet at 8 AM at the Kmart. Our Captain Lion Don Shaub notes that last spring we had 13 members help with the cleanup and our efforts netted 35 bags of trash. Lion Don would like to see the same great effort this year. Don also noted that last year Lion Don Bragg found a five dollar bill and Lion George found a dime. We were all wondering if our Captain planted the money in order to encourage the same great turnout of help with our cleanup this spring. Lion Don, we suggest you try for a ten dollar bill this year.

Craft Fair and Pancake Breakfast.

Things are in full swing for having our best ever Craft Fair this year, our 17th consecutive year for this our biggest fundraiser. Several planning meetings were held and signs have been placed throughout the community to advertise our event. Thanks to our General Chairman Dick Groff and Co-Chair Bill Michael for mailing all the crafters applications and sending out the timely ads. The Craft Fair has always been held the day before Mother's Day, this year is May 8. Lets all thank Lion Dick for his leadership and his partner-in-service, Joan, for the many phone calls and all the work that goes into making this event our Club*s signature community event.

THE GIFT OF SIGHT OPTICAL MISSIONS:

Our Club has collected over 66,000 pairs of used eye glasses to date. We decided to deliver all future collected glasses to Lens Crafters at Park City instead of incurring the shipping cost to ship them to The Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia.

Each year, LensCrafters funds and operates several optical missions to developing nations. Local Lions Clubs in each nation host the mission teams, assist with clinic operations and arrange for each team to serve approximately 15,000 people during a two-week period. Since 1992, groups of LensCrafters optometrists and opticians have provided free eye exams and recycle eyeglasses to the poor in 20 developing countries including Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Kenya, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Panama and the Philippines.
