CLUB HAPPENINGS:
Adopt A
Road
The club's fall Adopt A Road
was held Saturday, Sept. 29th. Our Captain, Don Shaub reported that a very good
turnout of 9 members assisted in cleaning up the four miles of the Fruitville
Pike and the township's Hess Boulevard collecting some 25 bags of trash. Lion
Don thanks all those who participated in this year's fall cleanup.
SABVI Fall Retreat at PA
Lions Camp Beacon Lodge
This year's fall retreat was
a huge success the weather was absolutely perfect. A total of 25 Blind and vision impaired clients and their
chaperones left Lancaster at noontime Friday, October 5th arriving at Beacon
Lodge at 2:30 PM.
Saturday morning 7:30 sharp we traveled to Raystown Lake for a
breakfast cruise on the Proud Mary. Saturday afternoon back at Beacon Lodge,
everyone enjoyed the outdoors, including bowling, fishing and hiking. Saturday
evening the clients enjoyed bingo, dancing and playing trivia pursuit. The
cooks at Beacon Lodge outdid themselves this year providing wonderful meals
each day. Sunday morning after a hearty breakfast we loaded the vans for the
trip back to Lancaster. Everyone hated for the weekend to end. We reluctantly
gathered the clients and headed for Lancaster around 9:30 AM arriving in
Lancaster at 1:30. A special thanks to
Lion Richard Dotter and family for the very generous donation, which provided
sponsorship for four Blind clients who otherwise would not have had the
opportunity to attend this year's fall retreat.
WHITE
CANE DAYS OCT. 12th & 13th
With
every member’s help we can top last years total of $3660.61.

S.O.S. Support Our
Soldiers Club Project:
Our club's program speaker
for the May 14, 2007 meeting was Lt. Col. David Blackman, the husband of Lion
Lynn Marie an Iraqi war veteran. Our club decided that we would prepare a list
so that our members would be able to bring donated items to our next three
meetings. The items listed below and donated by our members will be boxed and
shipped in early November.
Nonperishable foods:
Dried fruit, trail mix, beef
jerky, tuna (packets), crackers, energy/cereal bars, ramen noodles, candy (no
chocolate), gum, individual size bags of pretzles, popcorn, chips and etc. .
Personal Hygiene items:
(no aerosols), unscented
deodorant& after shave/bar soap, travel size Kleenex/toilet paper, saline
solution/contact lens cleaner, chap stick, eye wash, band-aids etc., sunscreen,
disposal razors, white socks.
Other items:
Playing cards, stationary
& stamps, magazines, cold water wash (woolite) wet wipes.
Entertainment books:
Lion
Jim Coleman has the new 2008 Entertainment Books. The cost is the same as last year
$25. This is an easy fundraiser. Be sure to ask your friends and neighbors.
They make great gifts. The campaign is just starting and many other
organizations will be selling the books also. Don't delay asking everyone you
sold a book to last year, as well as others, who might benefit from the
discounts offered at literally thousands of locations in our area.

A Message from your District Governor
Hello Lions,
Lionesses, and Leos,
For those Lions, Lionesses, and
Leos who were not present at the September cabinet meeting, First lady Joanna
had open heart surgery on Monday the 17th. She came home on Friday the 21st.
She is doing well but has quite a few follow-up appointments. So I will be the
chauffeur for awhile. Thank you for all the cards, calls, and prayers of
support.
Thank you to IPDG Bruce for
attending the Lioness Advisory meeting for me and to Lion Jamie for covering
for first lady Joanna at the cabinet meeting. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you to the Mount Joy Lions
for the lovely bouquet of flowers and the support of club members.
October is
membership month. Banner patches will be awarded by Lions International to the
top three clubs in each district who show a positive net growth in membership
during the month of October. A net membership growth of three is the minimal
requirement to attain this award. These awards are solely based on the October
M & A report which should be completed before the end of the month.
Remember, the district will only receive three awards. How many clubs can get a
plus three gain in membership for October? You can do it! See President
Mahendra Amarasuriya's letter elsewhere in this newsletter for more information
on these awards.
Thank you to
the Myerstown Lions Club for presenting me with a check for the Governor's
contribution schedule plus a sponsorship for the boys and girls seminar. They
are the first club to become a 100% club. Pins will be presented when they
arrive.
Diabetes
Walk. There are seven registered walkers so far. We can do better than that.
Get some exercise and join the group on Sunday, October 14, at the
Columbia-Wrightsville bridge. First lady Joanna needs a replacement walker. Who
will help her out? See flyer elsewhere in the District Newsletter.
Rally Month.
October is rally month. Each Lion region and the Lionesses have a scheduled
rally during this month, except Region 5 which has their rally in November.
Let's support your region and zone chair persons and come out to the rallies.
Let's make them the best yet! We will have good food, lots of fun, awards, and
of course some singing. My theme for the year is "Sing a New Song" so
we can't have a rally without singing!
The Pennsylvania
State Lions Council Meeting will be held in our district on November 2 and 3 at
the Park Plaza hotel. This is an excellent opportunity to attend some seminars
on Saturday morning, a State Council meeting in the afternoon, and a banquet on
Saturday evening featuring past International President, Lion Frank Moore. As
host governor, I am asking all Lions to come out to some of the Saturday
events. Complete the form in this newsletter for the Saturday evening banquet.
Let's have a strong representation from district 14-D. Roar, Lions, Roar
